My 2016 Makeup Favourites In Action

I've been looking forward to posting this for the past few weeks because it looked like a fun challenge. I uploaded a post at the start of January in which I spoke about my favourite products for the previous year. While writing the post I realised I could technically put together an entire look with these products, as they matched each other. Looking back on them, I think I've got a type when it comes to picking out my favourites.

For the base, I don't use a primer because I don't need one with the RCMA KA Series palette. I mixed the KA-4 shade with a bit of grapeseed oil to make it a liquid and applied it to moisturised skin. I blended it out with a buffing brush from this set because sponges would sheer out my foundation when it was already sheer enough. I used the KA-3 shade in the palette to conceal my pimples. I also used a small amount of the LA Girl HD Pro Conceal in the shade Natural to neutralise my purple under-eye area, as it has a peach tone to it. I blended it out using my fingers.

I applied the Photo Focus eyeshadow primer from Wet n Wild before laying down the You Need Love shade from the I Heart Makeup I Heart Chocolate Palette to even out the skin on my eyelids. I then applied the Milani ShadowEyez in Champagne Toast to my lids to act as a base. I used the Thank Friday shade, from the palette as a transition shade, and then Pleasure Girl to the crease. I have hooded eyes, so I added a bit of Pleasure Girl to the bottom of the brow bone to better show the colour, as well as the outer V. I applied DownUnder Cosmetix Eyeshadow Pigment in Kinnaly to the eyelid, finishing off with a bit of Stolen Chocolate from the palette to the lashline. I added Thank Friday to the bottom lashline with a pointed brush.

I applied the Milani Rose Blush in Romantic Rose to my cheeks with the Real Techniques blush brush and blended it out. Then I added theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer to the tops of my cheeks and the inner corners of my eyes. I lightly dusted the bottom left shade of the e.l.f. Illuminating Palette onto my chin, across my forehead and the tip of my nose for a natural, glow-from-within look.

I needed something to set the entire face, but I didn't mention one in the Favourites post, so I used Australis Ready Set Go Finishing powder to set the foundation/concealer and mattify my nose. It's a very finely milled silicone-based powder that somehow stops my base from budging whenever I need to blot the oil. I didn't have the ModelCo VolumEyes mascara anymore, so I used the Barry M Showgirl Lengthening mascara instead, as it was what I had on hand.

To finish, I applied Milani Amore Matte Lip Creme in Loved to my lips. There we go, a complete look!

You can barely see the Kinnaly pigment because of my hooded lids, and they drive me nuts. I've been experimenting lately with my eyeshadow palettes to see what I could accomplish with the damnable lids, and I'm not succeeding much. I was telling Cat yesterday that it's easier to pretend that you don't suck at eyeshadow on when you're using nudes. My hair also drives me nuts these days because it's a bit difficult to style when I don't have a hair curler, so my hair looks like a 4 year old's bob. Ugh. At least the highlights are natural, which is why I refuse to take dye to my grey hair.

I'm crazy about the RCMA palette, it's so perfect for that second-skin finish, and I love that it stands up so well against my oily skin. At first I thought it was a bit too pink for me, but it is clear that it's the perfect palette for me. I'm going to be doing a review on this palette soon, and also show you guys how to use and apply it. For now, however, I'm going to bed. I need to get my sleeping pattern back on track in time for my new job on Tuesday when I'll have to wake up at 5:30 am.

What were your favourites for 2016? Send me a link to your post if you have any!
