Happy New Year! My 2017 Resolutions

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I had a relatively quiet NYE at home, writing and organising blog posts and drinking tea, occasionally cooking up a bowl of mi goreng because I can't be arsed making anything healthier. I often have bad luck on NYE, for some strange, absurd reason so I tend to avoid it as much as I can. Unless someone invites me somewhere and I can't refuse without looking like an unsociable bint. This year, however, Sean had to work so I relished the opportunity to just stay home, chill and write, and read fanfiction in between writing because I have a bad habit.

I thought I would reflect on the previous year's resolutions before I list my new goals because I haven't looked at the post since I wrote it. I think I may have accomplished some of them, but I know for a fact that I did not complete the rest. Here's the link to the original post, as even though I summarised most of the goals for this post, it's much more detailed if you read my goals for 2016 separately.

1. Drastically reduce my spending habits on beauty products.
HAHAHAHA! This definitely did not happen! I'm not going to bother making this goal for this year, it's a losing battle.

2. Improve my skincare.
I did this, I did this! I most certainly did this! I moved on from a 3-step routine including a foaming cleanser, a toner, a rough physical exfoliator, and a greasy moisturiser to a routine that includes a glycolic exfoliator, a toner, a cleansing lotion, a hydrating day cream, a night cream, a serum and an eye serum. I'm such a fancy old lady!

3. Change my hair colour.
Well, I most certainly did not dye my hair (my greys are on display for the world to see) but I definitely did chop off about 8 inches in March or April for a pixie cut.

4. Refrain from giving into food cravings.
I'll just let my mild weight gain tell you the answer for this one.

5. Be proactive with my health and take my supplements.
Uh... that went pretty well for the first half of the year, and then I got lazy. Remind me to pick this up again.

6. Strengthen my friendships.
Um, while I didn't really quite strengthen a lot of my friendships, I did make it a habit to get in touch with people more frequently.

7. Engage with my family.
I haven't accomplished much with this one, but I did start building a better relationship with my brother and sister-in-law. Something about a baby in the family brings everyone together.

8. Travel overseas.
Okay, I MOST definitely did this one. I went back to Japan and had a great time, especially at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

9. Figure out what I want to do for a career.
I'm still lost. Ask me again next year.

10. Improve photography, set and achieve blogging goals, and review ALL of my makeup.
I definitely improved my photography, that much is true. I'm super happy about the quality of my photos. I failed to set goals, nor did I think about them, I just hoped for the best. I reviewed a lot of makeup over the year, but I didn't do each and every one of them.

Well, that was fun!

I'm going to get started on my new resolutions, woot-woot! After witnessing my hopelessness in sticking to my goals for 2016, I've decided to make it simple, short and focus on the important things.

1. Save up for a house.
Sean and I really want to save money to buy a house, but we haven't had a good go of it during 2016. We're hoping 2017 yields much better results. I need to get a second job with more hours just so that the extra bit can go towards our savings.

2. Keep improving my skincare routine.
I still have a long way to go in my skincare routine, as my skin still gets rather greasy and I'm almost at my wit's end, because no matter that I do or try, it is still pretty oily. However, my skin is much smoother now, and not as dehydrated nor as acne-prone as it used to be, so all I have to do is focus on reducing my grease production.

3. Relationships.
I think I should work on my relationships, because I've been quite the introvert during 2016, and I think some of my friends might feel a bit neglected. I also want to work on my familial bonds.

4. Work harder on my blog.
I've got lots of new plans for this blog. Don't worry, none of them involves changing the design or anything, as I love it the way it is now. I aim to post regularly, but at the same time, I also aim to work on establishing relationships with my readers and brands, and improve engagement by commenting on other blogs, being active on social media, and not spamming my content. I also want to keep my content consistent in quality, rather than focusing on quantity.

5. Be healthy.
Although I was much healthier in 2016, I need to step it up. I need to keep taking my supplies and increasing my protein and water intake. I also need cut down on simple carbs because I am still addicted to snacking on Pringles, vegemite toast and sweet tea.

I'm hoping that, over the course of this year, I'll keep on improving myself in terms of being more organised and motivated, as I've noticed that I've been down in the dumps quite a bit over the past year. I also would like to establish a better daily routine that rarely ever gets disrupted by laziness or other factors. Too many times I'll have a plan for the next day, but then I'll accidentally sleep in, feel sluggish and then not do anything for the rest of the day. It's a horrible feeling, and one I want to overcome by adjusting some things in my everyday life. I need to work on this little by little, or else I'll feel overwhelmed.

Here's to sticking to my new years resolutions!

What are your resolutions for this year? Do you have any major plans?
