AND A GIVEAWAY!
It's my blog's 1st birthday today! I am so incredibly happy to see how far I've come and how committed I am to my little corner of the internet. I honestly never expected to continue blogging for more than a few months, as per usual whenever I pick up a new hobby or interest. And let me tell you, I have picked up quite a lot of hobbies and gotten bored of them as quickly as they came. You name it, I've done it; knitting, painting, cake decorating, writing, sewing, and scrapbooking. I even tried raising and training bonsai trees. Hell, there were even hobbies that I'd picked up and bought supplies for but never started on it, usually because life got in the way. These include terrariums, model dioramas, and gardening.
I began obsessing over makeup last year in April, because before then I couldn't be bothered dealing with technicalities of finding cruelty-free and animal-friendly makeup that was also affordable. As soon as I found out that it was as easy as baking an apple pie, literally, I got all in. It started out as a hobby, having a collection that grew over time. A few months later, after we moved in with our friend, my partner suggested that I start a blog. He wanted me to have something to work on to burn off my creative juices and occupy my time, so that I wasn't as bored as I usually was. He also wanted it to provide some sort of income, but there was no guarantee that that would work.
This blog was initially named The Thrifty Vegetarian. I created it in hopes that I could reach out to those that were interested and give ideas on affordable cruelty-free makeup and food, especially vegetarian cheese. It was too narrow of a niche so I did a whole revamp last April, and I am really happy with it. I had heaps of fun learning how to work out codes on my own and modifying the template so that it looked completely different. My favourite part of it was to use Firebug to find and edit codes on the blog and other pages, playing around with it without making any changes to the template.
Along the way, this blog has grown, as have I. I've found many wonderful friends among other bloggers, and have really loved getting to know everyone. I've also loved reading blogs and learning so much more about the beauty world. I look forward to so many more years of blogging and sharing content with everyone else, and I can only hope to see it grow even more.
To celebrate my blog's birthday, I've decided to host a giveaway for all of my readers to enter. I'm not rich or anything, and I don't make any money off of this blog, so I thought that something that was personal and handmade by me was the way to go, and I'll put all of my heart and soul into making it. Have you heard of 'amigurumi'? It's Japanese for a knitted or crocheted toy or figure, and that is exactly what I am offering for this giveaway. The winner of this giveaway will receive three 4"(ish) stuffed toys of their own choosing, be it their favourite characters, animals, food or even mythical creatures. I've done several Marvel characters such as Thor, Iron Man and the Hulk, and even Chewie from Star Wars.
To enter this giveaway, you will need to do all of the following:
1. Follow me on Twitter.
2. Leave a comment below that you've entered and what you would love for me to make should you win this giveaway.
3. Please share this
The giveaway competition will last for two weeks and end on the 10th of August at 11:59pm AEST. The winner will be chosen at random through Rafflecopter. I'll then contact you to go over the designs and obtain delivery details. It will take me a few weeks to make the toys and then I'll send it off once I'm perfectly happy with them. Oh! And this giveaway is also international!

I've been quite busy these days as Greg moved out early Sunday morning, so I've been cleaning the place from top to bottom, and I'm still not finished. There's a lot of work to be done, hence why I've been so inactive on the blog, Twitter, Instagram and everywhere else. I'm hoping to get back to my original rhythm next week and have everything sorted out here. My poor significant other has been afflicted with the common cold so he's been sneezing all over the place. I'm off to Adelaide on Friday morning for two nights, and then I will be grabbing my copy of The Cursed Child on Sunday when it comes out in stores. I'm super excited and just cannot wait to read it!
Anyways, I hope to have a post up on Friday, but I cannot guarantee anything. I promise that I'll be getting back to regular updates starting next Wednesday (Monday is a bit of a stretch, unfortunately).
Good luck!

Happy birthday to your blog!
ReplyDeleteI've only found your blog last week but I'm already in love with it, and I loved chatting with you on Twitter! Can't wait to find out the Cursed Child's plot and share my opinions with you, see if this new chapter of the story will make us feel the same way.
I've entered the giveaway, I hope it's okay. I never win anything but we'll see. If I won I think I'd ask you to knit some Harry Potter themed amigurumi, probably Dumbledore and I don't know, maybe some magical creatures.
Marti
Thank you! I'm so glad you really like my blog and it puts a smile on my face every time you talk to me :) I'm so so excited about the book, I just want the days to hurry up! Yay, fingers crossed that you win! I'd love to make a mini Dumbledore <3 he would be super cute! I've also got some silvery wool that would work nicely for the embroidery in his robes XD
DeleteThank you for commenting!
Congrats on 1 year, that is a huge accomplishment! I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who starts and stops hobbies, sometimes even before i begin as well hahaha. XO - Kim

Haha, I think there's a lot of us out there, we just haven't found them yet XD I really want to get around to making my Hobbit diorama, I even have all the tools and material for it, it's just a matter of finding the time and space to get around to it.
DeleteThanks for commenting!
Awww! Those are so cute! My favourite movie is Toy Story, so I would love a little alien-guy like that (you know that ones that say "The Claawwww!") You're such a creative person I'm so jealous. I get so impatient when it comes to working on things and that's my biggest downfall.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 1 year! It's a small milestone, but hopefully many more to come :)

Haha, if you win this giveaway, I'll make three of those little alien guys for you and they can all go "wooooooaahh!" I get bored easily so I have a lot of little hobbies to fall back onto, which isn't good because I have way too many supplies at the moment. Thank you!!
DeleteYour blog has come so far Stephii! Oh I remember the thrifty veg days haha, sounds like it was a decade ago. Congratulations on hitting your first milestone, I will also be grabbing a copy of the Cursed Child! Very excited!!!

It really feels like such a long time ago, just thinking about the Thrifty Veg makes me cringe a little bit haha. I was super excited about reading the book, but now I feel disappointed. More on Twitter?
DeleteMy son is sat with me and had decided he NEEDS the Hulk. They are adorable
ReplyDeleteI really like the Hulk too, but I think my favourite one has to be Thor, because of the detailing to his outfit. Thank you for commenting <3
DeleteHappy blog birthday!! Your wee creations are so cute. I just love handmade stuff, it's so personal that way. I think if I won I would love mythical creatures such as unicorns and mermaids!!! Slight obsession with them x
ReplyDeleteJordanne || Thelifeofaglasgowgirl.co.uk
I've never made a mermaid before but I think I would enjoy it immensely! Good luck <3
DeleteCongrats on the big accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteIf I won, I'd love three marvel characters (Thor, iron man, and captain America) those are my husbands favorite three. His birthday is coming up and since I don't make money off of my blog either, I can't really afford to get him a present right now 😕 I know he'd love these though! We always watch the new movies together 😊
Totally understandable! I made these ones for my partner's birthday a couple of years ago because I couldn't really afford to buy him presents, and he loved them! I have to get around to making the rest of the characters I wanted to do plus Ant-Man and Spiderman
DeleteMy 8 year old daughter just loves these type of dolls - so anything in terms of a princesses, mermaids.
ReplyDeleteAw that's so cute! I'm so sorry I didn't get to reply earlier ): I wanted to wish you luck but the giveaway ended and someone else won this time.
