My Blog's First Birthday!

It's my blog's 1st birthday today! I am so incredibly happy to see how far I've come and how committed I am to my little corner of the internet. I honestly never expected to continue blogging for more than a few months, as per usual whenever I pick up a new hobby or interest. And let me tell you, I have picked up quite a lot of hobbies and gotten bored of them as quickly as they came. You name it, I've done it; knitting, painting, cake decorating, writing, sewing, and scrapbooking. I even tried raising and training bonsai trees. Hell, there were even hobbies that I'd picked up and bought supplies for but never started on it, usually because life got in the way. These include terrariums, model dioramas, and gardening.

I began obsessing over makeup last year in April, because before then I couldn't be bothered dealing with technicalities of finding cruelty-free and animal-friendly makeup that was also affordable. As soon as I found out that it was as easy as baking an apple pie, literally, I got all in. It started out as a hobby, having a collection that grew over time. A few months later, after we moved in with our friend, my partner suggested that I start a blog. He wanted me to have something to work on to burn off my creative juices and occupy my time, so that I wasn't as bored as I usually was. He also wanted it to provide some sort of income, but there was no guarantee that that would work.

Catch Up With Me

First off, I'd like to start with an apology. I apologise for the inconsistency on my blog over the past few weeks. Every day I cringe at myself for either failing to deliver on quality or even uploading a new post to the blog, let alone write new posts. Oftentimes I'm wincing because I'm looking at my drafts, all fifty of them, and wondering what the hell I should be posting next, let alone plan ahead.

My posts of late have been lackluster and uninspiring, I can see that, and I feel awful for all of my readers that are expecting posts with heart, inspiration and all of my effort put into it. I'm really sorry, I tend to be too harsh on myself at times like these. I don't have writer's block, Merlin forbid, though I can't say the same for my Dramione fic (I need some pressure to finish this one, people, please help!). It's more the fact that life, and bloody Pokémon GO, keeps getting in the way of my weekly routine and throwing things out of whack.

I thought you guys might like to know a little bit about what's going on here in Stephii's world. It doesn't seem like much but for a chickadee like me, it's very distracting and I can barely compartmentalise everything.

Products Other Bloggers Have Influenced Me To Try

I've seen a few of these posts popping up here and there, and for a long time, I used to think that I would never be able to write one myself, mainly because of all of the things I wanted were way out of my budget or really difficult to obtain locally, let alone online (L.A. Girl comes to mind). However, almost a year after starting my blog, I've come to realise that I've actually gotten a few of the items that I so coveted, and these are the products that other bloggers have convinced me to add to my wishlist. I'm still budgeting for the other items on my wishlist, but I'm getting there eventually.

The Harry Potter Tag

I'm a massive fan of Harry Potter, most of you already know that, but to my newcomers, here's a glimpse into my obsession with Harry Potter. I wasn't joking when I said I was a massive fan, and as soon as I saw the Harry Potter Tag over on That Online Geek, it had to be done.

My Blog's 100th Post Milestone!

This has been a long time in coming and I'm exhilarated that this baby has kept on growing and growing. A few weeks ago I was struggling to try and figure out what to do to celebrate the 100 post milestone. I toyed with the idea of holding a giveaway and ending it on the 27th of July, but I realised that wasn't enough time to give everyone the opportunity to enter the giveaway. So instead, I'm going to open the giveaway on the 27th of July instead, because it's my blog's first birthday that day!

I thought it would be okay to talk a little bit about the giveaway before I start the rest of this post. As most of you all know, I've got a spending ban so I can't quite go out and buy things to send to the winner. However, I do have a thing for making people gifts, and the one thing that I'm rather decent at is crochet, namely amigurumi toys. It's the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed toys or figures, and I love making them. As I've got shitloads, mind my French, of wool sitting in large boxes, I figured I would give the winner of the giveaway the opportunity to choose exactly what they would love for me to whip up for them, be it superheroes, themselves, animals or even a little fat cupcake with eyes. The sky's the limit in this case.

I also plan on slipping a little surprise gift in the parcel in the giveaway as a little highlight.

The Lipstick Diaries Entry #9

I was going to upload this post last night as soon as I got home from the movies (I went to see Finding Dory) but just before the train was about to pull into my station, someone got hit by the train that I was on. They couldn't get replacement coaches to us because on one side of the train there were hills, and on the other side there were farms with fences so they had no safe way of reaching us. Long story short, we were stuck waiting for over two hours while the emergency services sorted out the ordeal. I was annoyed because the station was literally a block or two away and they could have let us all off the train and created a path for us to walk along. When they finally started up the train, it took literally 30 seconds to get from where we were to the station. By the time I got home, I was irritable, headachey, tired, hungry and beyond done with the day, so the post had to wait.

Recently I contacted Milani Cosmetics here in Australia for some new products to review on the blog again, and they happily sent me a few items to try out for nothing in return. While I already had some of the stuff they sent me, I also received a few other things that were recent additions to Milani's range. These Amore Matte Lip Crémes aren't exactly brand new releases, but for my fellow Aussies, they are, so I was all too happy to review them. They also sent me the Prime Perfection Hydrating + Pore-Minimising Face Primer and the EasyBrow Tinted Fiber Gel from the new releases. More on those in later posts.

Meet The Advertisers!

This month marks the start of my new venture to make a little bit of income on the side to supplement this blog, nline on Colourpop and buy every shade of Super Shock eyeshadow that's on my wishlist. Sas blogging is not a free hobby if you're prone to buying products and props on a whim like me. I've got heaps of products in my arsenal waiting to be reviewed and talked about, so I'll work my way through those and try to avoid the urge to hop opeaking of which, my Colourpop wishlist is 65+ products long. I'll need to win the lottery if I ever plan on getting them all, ha!

When Winter Wrecks Havoc On Your Skin

Don't get me wrong, I love winter. I love any weather that is not hot, sticky or dry, because I'm free from the things that usually follow me when Summer rolls around, such as the fleas and mosquitoes (Warning: ALLERGIC!), some symptom of heat exhaustion or stroke such as nosebleeds, fainting, dizziness, headaches and vomiting. Despite being born in the summer, I hate it with a passion. Especially the sunburn and the peeling skin that comes with it. Just... no, please take your peeling skin and leave me alone. Don't pick at it in front of me. So, late Autumn, all of Winter and early Spring are my buddies, I'm happy during those times of the year.

The problem with winter is that we're constantly in dry heated rooms, and I don't know about you all, but that really does my skin a world of crap. My skin starts drying up like the desert and stings when I try to wash it or apply a toner. It feels scaly, rough and just altogether unpleasant to touch. Gone is that hydrated softness that I expect from my skin on a daily basis.

Obviously, prevention is the cure, but sometimes it gets too cold that no matter how many blankets and layers you've got on, the cold still seeps into your bones and makes your nose run, so on goes the heater. With the three of us, we have varying degrees of toleration for the cold, so the heater is used more often than I'm comfortable with, especially because my housemate's back acts up when it gets cold. Greg is moving to Cairns soon, where the weather is nice and toasty so he won't have to deal with the pain anymore. I've been to Cairns once when I had to change planes for my trip to Japan back in 2010. It was blisteringly hot at 9:30 in the morning. Never again. No. Thank. You. Kind. Sir!
