The Lipstick Diaries Entry #7: e.l.f. Studio Moisturising Lipsticks

I honestly have no idea why I don't wear these lipsticks more often. Then again, I don't wear lipsticks often enough, yet my collection just keeps on growing. That's the point of The Lipstick Diaries, I suppose. I really, really like lipsticks, it just adds spice to an otherwise plain outfit, makes me feel a bit more exciting, and it seems to brighten up my day every time I apply a lick of colour to my lips.

Until my partner says he prefers me all natural, and it weirds him out when I wear makeup. Gee, thanks. I know now not to approach you while wearing a bright pink lipstick. And no, Sean, these are not kiss-proof.

These lippies are probably the best of e.l.f.'s lipsticks, aside from the Matte Lip Colour. Unlike the Matte Lip Colours though, these lipsticks are moisturising, creamy to apply, hydrating, and have a buttery finish. Also unlike the Matte Lip Colours, they do not last as long, especially if you're prone to drinking from a water bottle every two minutes. Without eating or drinking this lasts a few hours before requiring reapplication. The colour payoff to these shades are amazing, the Rosy-Go-Round and Wink Pink more so than the Ravishing Rose. They also taste nice, a little bit sweet but nothing terrible or unusual. This product contains paraffins and parabens, so if that's not your thing, best steer clear from this one. I do mind the ingredients, but considering how rarely I wear lipstick, I don't mind this as much.

Top to Bottom: Wink Pink, Ravishing Rose, Rosy-Go-Round

One of the more natural shades in the Moisturising Lipstick range, I was very surprised when I opened it to find glitter, as I had no idea it was a shimmer formula. However, the glitter is very subtle, and you cannot feel it when worn, so it's smooth rather than grainy. This is the sort of pink that you can wear everyday, with a subtle hint of mauve alongside a warm brown tint. The colour payoff is very good with this one, though lip exfoliation prior to wear is essential. This one loves to settle in creases and emphasise dry areas, so some priming is also ideal.

Easily the most vibrant shade of all three, the colour is a vivid pink that leans towards blue, rather than red. At first I wasn't too keen on the shade as it was very bright, and I wasn't used to it. Now, I rather like it because it's such a fun shade. It's definitely something to wear when you're going to a party and want something a little bit more exciting than the standard red. This is probably not the best colour for most warm skin toned people, but as I'm neutral, this works for me.

I can't believe I completely forgot to take a lip swatch photo of this shade, because it is one of the best ones I've encountered. It's a sweet mixture of warm pink and red, giving your lips a natural rosy hue reminiscent of watermelons, which is perfect for Summer. Though it is a slightly more sheer than the other two shades, this one is easily my favourite. This is quite a neutral colour and so can be worn by both cool and warm skinned people, and can be worn in any kind of situation.

Have you tried e.l.f.'s Studio Moisturising Lipsticks? What were your opinions on them?

    1. I love their prices, but unfortunately they don't have these lippies on iHerb, let alone in Kmart where they stock e.l.f. in Australia. I had to buy these ones on eBay :O Apparently the new winter additions is lacking in the quality so it's best to skip over these shades. 90% of the original colours are wonderfully pigmented, and if you watch Emily Fox's swatch video on these, you'll see what I mean :) She's fantastic for lip swatch videos!
